Apple launches new Macbook Air and other product updates

During the press conference, Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, kicks off the show with several new product updates. The first of the few was iLife 11.  Phil Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President, starts by demonstrating the new features of iPhoto. One of the great new features is that it is easier to make sophisticated slide shows. Also it is a lot easier to e-mail photos. The message is actually created inside iPhoto so you don’t have to launch a separate e-mail application.
Each photo has an information panel near it that provides you with information like where it was shared.  A perfect example would be if you use iPhoto to post a picture on Facebook, then this panel will tell you what your friends say about it.
Other features that are new to iLife are enhanced photo books and greeting cards.
Then Steve Jobs Started talking about iMovie. “The program is for all of us mere mortals who don't want to learn how to use Final Cut pro," he says.
They have updated it and made it better so now people can make a “trailer” of their movies. Also, added audio effects allow you to tweak people voices in the f
The trailer feature allows you to include original soundtracks that were recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. Movies can be shared on Facebook and Vimeo. "We think (iMovie 11) is a real breakthrough, and we think it's going to be tons of fun," Jobs says.
Now Jobs’ start to get in to a presentation of Garage Band 11. A demo is being performed by Product marketing Manager Xander Soren is doing a demo. There is a feature called “groove matching” that helps musicians fix rhythm problems. They call it “an automatic spell checker for really bad rhythm.” Piano lessons feature provides instruction and practice tracks that are performed by a symphony orchestra.
ILife 11 is out today and is included with new Macs or available as an upgrade to existing Mac owners for $49.
Brand new video chat software called FaceTime, that is available on newer iPhones and iPod touches, is now available on Mac computers as well. You are now able to call from Mac to Mac or Mac to iPhone.  Mac has upgraded from Snow Leopard, not the current version of Mac’s Operating System will be called Lion.
“Now Apple wants to bring innovations of the iPhone and iPad ‘back to the Mac, Jobs says. They include:
   Multitouch gestures
   App Store
   App home screens
   Full-screen apps
   Auto save
   Apps resume when launched”
Jobs started talking about touch screens, just like the iPad. But they don’t work on a regular PC, with a keyboard and vertical screen. But touch screen surfaces don’t work on a vertical screen, after a long period of time, you feel like your arms will fall off. So, Apple is staying with the gesture-capable touch-pad that is available on some of their other products.
Macbook meets iPad. The new MacBook Air has improved battery life and a flash drive instead of a hard drive. This makes it a lot more durable if it’s bumped or dropped. Its thickest point is .68 inches and tapers out to .11 inches. But he claims it’s durable. “Apple is the largest user of flash memory in the world, Jobs says. (There's a lot of flash that goes into many iPhones and iPods.)” The Mac runs on an Intel Core2Duo Processor. There is a 13.3-inch screen model and an 11.6 inch screen model. The smaller version is 2.3 pounds. The prices are $999 for the 11.6-inch model with 64 GB of flash memory or $1,999 for twice that amount. Then $1,299 and $1,599 for the 13.3-inch model. They are available today.
